Last month’s headlining act at the monthly Poetry In Session, Slim Emcee aka Kabubi Herman, left the poetry-savvy audience wallowing in delight at his performance at The Hub on Tuesday evening. A lot has been said of the afro-spotting lad who started off as a dancer, freelance vocalist but found his calling in poetry. His bankable talent was brought to the fore yet again as he stole the evening at The Hub.
Poetry In Session, for starters, brings forth minds who have a penchant for both the spoken and written word. And on Tuesday evening, those minds came to feast on the words spewed by different spoken word artistes. The evening saw performances from renowned poets: Jason Ntaro, Chebet Esther, Gilly Willy among others. But the highlight of the night came with Slim Emcee’s performance. He held the audience by a hangman’s noose as he recited, off head, his poems.
Recently, a debate was sparked off on one of the social media platforms about Slim Emcee’s poetic prowess. Some people claimed that he was the best in the land and others, literally, plucked off his iconic afro-hairdo in denial. However, he might have settled the debate on the night because he outworked himself; breathlessly churning out 5 pieces that evoked feelings, ruffled feathers, and gathered quite a good number of finger-snaps from the audience.
The night’s host, RoshanKarmali, who is the proprietor of Poetry In Session, flawlessly and perfectly filled in the transition of poets with her witty punch lines.
Slim Emcee, later on, merged with Gilly Willy and they enchanted the poetry-savvy revelers with their witty poems. The show ended at 11pm. In other news, Kwivuga is back. Watch the space!
