American and Senegalese singer and entrepreneur, Akon has arrived in Uganda ahead of an investment meeting with the head of state, H.E YK Museveni.
Born real names, Aliaune Thiam Badara Akon, touched down at Entebbe International Airport during the showery hours of Friday morning.
The ‘No matter’ singer and his delegation were warmly received by musician and tourism ambassador, Eddy Kenzo Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs – Mr. Amb. Abbey Walusimbi, the Trade and Investment officer in the office of the president – Isaac Kigozi, and other government officials.
Akon is said to have brought an investment plan to Uganda’s entertainment sector worth $12M USD for a period of 5years and will be discussing it with President Museveni.
He is also expected to meet the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadan Mubaje.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Isaac Kigozi the Trade and Investment officer in the office of the president said Akon’s visit to Uganda is such a crucial move that no country would ever resist.
He adds that the multi-award-winning African and American singer’s intentions of investing in Uganda as he did in his home country, Senegal, and our neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are of a huge benefit to the country’s economy.
“This is evident in all the projects he has invested in on the continent including, but not limited to the Afro-futuristic Akon City in Senegal and mining business in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC),” Kigozi said.
Mr. Kigozi also applauded President Museveni for laying condusive investment conditions in the country, attracting historical African diasporas with plans that complement their national economies.
“We appreciate the president who has a created a secure and conducive environment that attracts big investors like Akon to not only come but also invest their hard-earned money. The security, peace, and infrastructure maintained by government are instrumental in attracting such investors,” he added.
It is said that in Uganda, Akon will reciprocate the ‘Akon City’, a $6 billion worth sustainable smart city he has erected in Senegal.
