SC Villa appoint Spanish coach

Flores

Uganda’s most successful club, SC Villa have appointed Spanish coach Antonio Flores to take charge at Villa Park next season.

The Jogoos’ revelation comes barely a week after rivals KCCA FC appointed Uganda’s experienced duo in the names of Mike Mutebi and Sam Ssimbwa as manager and assistant manager respectively.

“It is true we signed a two-year contract with Flores and we expect him to start work in July,” club president Ben Misagga told the Daily Monitor.

The 42-year old is not a new face in the country as the Spaniard was unveiled to media in March as a scout from Spain that would help to identify and connect SC Villa players to European clubs.

Reports have now revealed that Flores agreed to terms with Villa during the short visit in March but announcing him at the time was not an option.

According to a Spanish paper, La Voz de Almeria, Flores had already finalized a deal between him and the 16-time record champions.

“This March I was in Kampala, where the club invited me to access all infrastructures and I showed them a general methodology and analysis in preparation for next season. After, I signed two seasons, the 2015-16 and 2016-17,” Flores is quoted to have said.

Flores takes over from the interim coach Ibrahim Kirya who guided the Blues to their 9th Uganda Cup title.
