Sports Club Villa have appointed former player Deo Sserwada as their new head coach for the 2016/2017 campaign.
Sserwada, a CAF B class licence holder signed a two year contract with the Jogoos replacing interim boss Ibrahim Kirya who guided them to a fourth place finish last season and the Uganda Cup triumph the season before that.
While speaking at a function held at Jevine Hotel, Rubaga, Club President Eng. Immanuel Ben Misagga explained why they had to drop Kirya before revealing the number of coaches that had applied for the job.
“The main reason for replacing Kirya is lack of qualification and thus had to make a cost effective decision,” Missaga said as quoted by Kawowo. “36 coaches applied, 24 had UEFA A qualification, we wrote to CAF and inquired about it and they told us we have to have a coach with at least CAF B on the bench. Only 4 had CAF B including the combination of Joseph Mutyaba, James Odoch and Hamza Kalanzi, a Kenyan who had no back room staff and then Deo Sserwadda, Shafik Bisaso and Robo Christopher.”
The Jogoos’ president further highlighted why Sserwada was the best man for the job, having tasted success both league and cup success with URA. “Unlike the rest, Sserwadda won the league with URA and also the Uganda Cup. And we want to win trophies,” he further noted.
