Acknowledged by many who have followed his music journey as “Krukid” and to the new fans as “Ruyonga,” the “Pesa” rapper has been diverse ever since he held a mic in his hand. His conscious rap skills have highlighted him among the best rappers in Africa. While in the USA, Ruyonga was listed among the top 50 artiste on the internet by Rawkus Records, an American Record Label that jump started Talib Kweli and Mos Def’s music careers.
Ruyonga whose music career sounds speck and ‘upcoming’ to most Ugandan music fanatics, has won several awards and earned massive recognition during his previous acts. When Ruyonga came back to Uganda, a few years ago, he embarked on setting himself as a rapper whose music would conquer and bring back the hip-hop culture in Uganda through his conscious songs. His Gospel hood character hasn’t stopped Ruyonga to rep Uganda’s hip-hop in every corner. With the recently concluded Kenya Gospel Groove Awards, Ruyonga managed to get a nomination under the category of BEST GOSPEL ARTISTE IN UGANDA, a spot he lost to Exodus.
Back to why I’m writing; Ruyonga was on Wednesday listed among the top ten MCs in Africa by one of the continental entertainment television stations, MTV Base. Ruyonga, whose name on the list shocked many, was on the same list with South Africa’s Khuli Chana, Kenya’s Bamboo, Olusegun of Nigeria among others.
The “Tutuuse” rapper whose previous three albums attracted an immerse fan base, will on 9th August release his fourth album “Victory Music.” He is currently signed under Kinetic Management Group, a talent management company that is based here in Kampala.
