The guys out there may want to take a deep breath before reading this one.
The Huffington Post reported that Pyotr Pavlensky, a Saint Petersburg-based performance artist, nailed his scrotum to the ground in the Red Square yesterday.
His goal was to “draw attention to Russian society’s inaction in the face of the development of a ‘police state,’” though after watching the graphic video of the event, he primarily drew attention to how cold it gets in Russia.
The video of the “performance” was posted online showing Pavlensky sitting naked outside Lenin’s Mausoleum with a nail clearly going through his scrotum before police officers covered him with a blanket. After being treated at a local clinic, he was taken into custody, the state-RIA Novosti news agency reported.
This isn’t the first time the usually hardened Russians have winced in pain at one of Pavlensky’s stunts. He’s previously sewn his lips together to demonstrate against the jailing of two members of Pussy Riot and was arrested after wrapping his naked body in barbed wire outside a government building back in May. Whatever happened to political cartoons? Or maybe a really mean Tumblr?
Needless to say, this is one protester with a lot of balls. Actually, check that. We’re still waiting to hear if those survived the incident.
