The Kampala Serena Hotel witnessed a night to remember as veteran band musician Ronald Mayinja took the stage for his highly anticipated concert “Old Is Gold.” The venue was sold out prompting the closure of all entrances by 9pm.
Mayinja, known for his iconic songs such as “Doreen,” “Necklace,” and “Tuli Ku Bunkenke,” treated the audience to a trip down memory lane with his timeless classics. The crowd vibed along enthusiastically, showering him with a warm reception that reflected their appreciation for his music.
Accompanied by fellow singers including Carol Nantongo, Maureen Nantume, Dr. Jose Chameleone, and Bebe Cool, Mayinja’s performance was bolstered by a lineup of talented acquaintances who added to the excitement of the night.
However, it was the electrifying performances of Bebe Cool and Chameleone that truly stole the show, captivating the audience and igniting a frenzy of excitement.
Amidst the musical spectacle, traditional herbalist Mama Fina made a significant gesture of appreciation towards Mayinja, rumored to be a generous token of Shs 10m.
The success or failure of the concert seemed to carry political undertones, with supporters of NUP hoping for a flop while NRM loyalists prayed for triumph. The audience’s political affiliations were evident, with some even donning t-shirts representing the PLU movement of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Mayinja’s political journey, once aligned with the opposition and celebrated for his revolutionary songs, has taken a significant turn with his decision to join NRM and publicly criticize NUP and its principal, Bobi Wine.
