When she left Gagamel to test how green the grass was on the other side, many began writing her off. And when Juliana Kanyomozi scheduled her concert on the same day as hers, people were even more scared for her musical future.
But for a former Gagamel soldier, once a Gagamel, always a Gagamel, on Friday 18th, Rema Namakula musically soldiered on at the Equatorial parking where she gave the fans her best.
As the norm is with concerts out of Serena, Rema stepped onto the stage minutes past 11PM when Juliana had 30 minutes earlier concluded her own performance. The emotionally fused lady was overwhelmed by the large numbers that turned up to give her support.
After her first song, she got on her knees thanking her fans and her mentor Bebe Cool for the support provided. Before long, she unveiled her calabash full of songs like ‘oli wange’ and ‘Fire Tonight’.
Halima Namakula, the lady who handed her over to Bebe Cool for mentorship came on stage to thank the fans on behalf of Rema and called upon them to continue supporting her.
Of course, her calabash was not that full, so she did a mélange of Afrigo Band and Yvvone Chaka Chaka lyrics in some of her songs.
At exactly mid-night, the Kukaliba was knitted out for the crowd that screamed in joyful appreciation as they danced and sang along to this super success.
For a maiden concert to fill up to capacity, it was clear proof that this musical hide and skin is a strong one, not about to go, but here to stay for many, many years.
