Renowned Ugandan Events Promoter Juma Balunywa has made sensational claims during an online interview, alleging that President Yoweri Museveni paid UGX 1.8 billion to prevent singer-turned-politician Bobi Wine from performing in Uganda.
According to Balunywa, the payment stemmed from President Museveni’s belief that Bobi Wine personally organized his music shows.
However, the president was later informed by a group of event promoters that they were the ones managing the logistics of Bobi Wine’s concerts.
The promoters reportedly argued that they were the true victims of financial losses following the artist’s ban from performing.
Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, has been prohibited from performing in Uganda for over six years.
The ban followed his rise as a political figure and vocal critic of the government.
Despite his absence from the music scene, Bobi Wine remains a prominent opposition leader and continues to draw attention both locally and internationally.
Neither President Museveni nor Bobi Wine has officially responded to the allegations made by Balunywa.
The claims, if substantiated, could further fuel ongoing debates about the intersection of politics and the arts in Uganda.
