Poor man sues hospital for missing life with rich parents

In the saddest case ofFreaky Friday in history, a man who was switched at birth, therefore enduring a life of poverty instead of growing up in the graces of his wealthy birth parents, has successfully sued the hospital that made the mix-up — nearly 60 years after the fact.

The man, who is not named in order to protect his identity, was born to wealthy parents at Tokyo’s San-Ikukai Hospital. Sounds like a pretty good situation, at least until the moment a nurse accidentally returned the child and another newborn to the wrong parents after a bath. Of course, two screaming newborns could cause anyone to make a rookie mistake. Plus, don’t all babies look pretty much the same anyway?

“The #SamsungTwitterParty is back! Get ready to party the night away come 19th December at Zone 7 with fellow tweeps. Entrance is 15,000shs. Call 0775439894 for details. Great music and drinks.”

Unfortunately, the man who was born to wealthy parents instead lived his life in extreme poverty. As NBC News reports, “Instead of the life of affluence for which he was destined, the man lived off welfare checks and grew up in a small apartment which had no electrical appliances.”

Apparently, the wealthier family discovered the mix up after determining that one of the brothers did not share the family likeness, and sought a DNA test accordingly. When the DNA test showed the man wasn’t related to the family after all, the family searched hospital records and eventually found the real brother two years later.

While some people might say that the unconditional love of the mother who raised him is priceless, the judge thought otherwise. Instead, the court ordered the hospital to pay 38 million yen ($371,000 USD) in damages. Well, he can’t buy back his lost upbringing, but at least he’ll now be able to mull over his misery while on a nice vacation.
