Seduce her with sweets: New research from Purdue University suggests that she might be more attracted to you after tasting a sugary treat.
In the study, people were given a description of a would-be mate. Then, half of the participants drank a sweet beverage, while the others had water. The sugar-tasting group was more interested in going out with the potential date, and expected their relationship to be more intimate. In another experiment, the researchers produced similar results with cookies.
One possible explanation for the link: Your brain associates sweet flavors with the concept of romance, so when you activate one of those parts of your mind, it lights up the other, says study author Dongning Ren. And it goes both ways: Other research has found that thinking about love makes people perceive food to be sweeter.
So while we can’t guarantee that ordering dessert will help you seal the deal, it’s definitely worth a try, Ren says. On a first date when she’s still feeling you out, eating something sweet may subtly tip the scales in your favor.
