The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has today kicked off its third annual Customer Connect Week during which it will offer free financial literacy to members who have received benefits in the recent past.

The Customer Connect, which takes from May 18th to May 22nd, will also include a number of community support activities in different parts of the country as part of the Fund’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

Addressing the media at Imperial Royale hotel today, NSSF Managing Director Mr. Richard Byarugaba said that the Fund will offer tailor made solutions to customers throughout the country.

“This week is dedicated to our members and customers in line with our commitment to delivering great customer service. We invite you and the general public to come ask any information about their savings and hold us accountable. We are open to scrutiny,” he said.

Byarugaba added that the initiative is in fulfillment of the promise the Fund made to its members to be responsive to their needs and offer world class services.

He added that the financial literacy programme targets NSSF members who have received their savings from NSSF, but also others who may be interested.

Bank of Uganda will facilitate the financial literacy programme, which seeks to bridge the financial and investment knowledge gap.

“Through a number of surveys, we have come to know that a number of savers in Uganda do not invest their money in feasible ventures and end up wasting, rather that growing the value of their money. Some end of up without any savings in just a few years.”

“This financial literacy programme is intended to bridge this knowledge gap so that our members can invest their savings better upon retirement,” he added.

The Fund will also engage in various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities across the country that are worth Ushs 230m.

“Our staff throughout the country will carry out a number of community activities as part of our social responsibility to the areas in which we do business. This year, we are focusing on providing the necessities of comfortable living to the elderly”, Byarugaba added.

Some of the items include solar power units, mattresses, beddings, treated mosquito nets, and repair of protected water sources such as boreholes.

The Fund will provide an assortment of equipment that enables a better learning environment for elderly in different regions of the country.
