The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, has been hit with the loss of one of its most beloved actors, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, who passed away at the age of 62.

Mr Ibu had been battling health challenges for some time, with reports indicating that he underwent an amputation procedure due to complications related to his condition.

Tragically, despite efforts to save his life, his family announced in November 2023 that one of his legs had to be amputated to prevent further deterioration of his health.
The decision to amputate was prompted by an infection in the arteries at his ankle, which had gone undetected until it reached a critical stage. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Mr Ibu’s condition continued to decline, ultimately leading to his passing.
