Nollywood Veteran Actor John Okafor a.k.a Mr Ibu passes away at 62

The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, has been hit with the loss of one of its most beloved actors, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, who passed away at the age of 62.

The news of his demise has left fans and colleagues devastated, as they remember the iconic performer who brought joy and laughter to audiences worldwide.

Mr Ibu had been battling health challenges for some time, with reports indicating that he underwent an amputation procedure due to complications related to his condition.

His struggle with illness became public knowledge in October 2023 when it was revealed that he required financial assistance for medical treatment. Tragically, despite efforts to save his life, his family announced in November 2023 that one of his legs had to be amputated to prevent further deterioration of his health.

The decision to amputate was prompted by an infection in the arteries at his ankle, which had gone undetected until it reached a critical stage. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Mr Ibu’s condition continued to decline, ultimately leading to his passing.

The news of Mr Ibu’s death comes as another blow to the Nigerian entertainment industry and fans allover the world who enjoyed his movies.

Confirming the heartbreaking news to the press, Mr Ibu’s family expressed their grief and gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from fans and colleagues alike. They described him as not just a talented actor but also a loving husband, father, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
