Nigeria proved yet again to be the music powerhouse of Africa after scooping most awards at the just concluded MTV AFRICA MUSIC AWARDS 2014 including Best Male, Best Female and Artiste of the Year accolades. Uganda seems to still be reeling in bad luck failing to win any major accolades on the continental level yet again after Uganda’s only representatives Radio and Weasel were edged out by South Africa’s Uhuru in the category of Best Collaboration.
The East African region however managed to scoop two accolades, though outside the music realm, with Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o taking home the award for Personality of the Year, and Tanzania’s entrepreneur Ashish J. Thakkar winning the MTV Base Leadership award all in the newly introduced Lifestyle Award categories.
