Multi-choice Uganda joined the rest of the world in celebrating the Africa day which occurs every 25th of May. The event that saw people of different calibers gather at Design Agenda, a hotel in Kampala was dedicated to bring African music, foods, attire and languages back to life.

As the event commenced, Elizabeth Acaye a renowned poet recited a poem entitled Africa which praised Africa, its cultures, its foods and languages that don’t separate but unite us.

African fashion shows by Brenda Maraka and Stella Atal also showcased unique African attires that were glamorous.
“Multi-choice has over the years used this day to celebrate and promote Africa’s rich history growth and entertainment culture through its focus on homegrown channels available on DStv”, Tina Wamala the multi-choice public relations officer and communications manager.

Locally produced channels such as Africa Magic which promotes African movies and entertainments, Channel O which promotes African songs, and Super Sport have over the years unearthed African talent through variety of exciting programs including Big Brother Africa, 53 Extra, Soccer Africa among others.

Besides, celebrating the continents growth and unity, it also aims at celebrating who we are as Africans in regards to our diverse cultures and languages that still keep us united.

African day is an annual commemoration of the founding of the Organization of Africa Unity (OAU) IN 1963, which presently recognized as the African Union (AU) comprising of 54 member states.

Wamala said, “throughout African month, homegrown programs and African content is highlighted and celebrated on the multi-choice channels GOtv and DStv”.

As the event climaxed, revelers were treated to a performance by Irene Ntale who performed her hit songs such as Nkubukinze, Love Letter, and Gyobera.
