Barcelona vice-president Javier Faus have admitted there’s no concern over Lionel Messi’s new contract talks, stating he is convinced the four-time Ballon d’Or winner will eventually retire at the Nou Camp.
The Argentina international, who put pen to a four-year deal at the beginning of 2013, has not prevented reports from media claiming both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City could prepare world-record bids at the end of the current season, but vice-president Javier Faus is not concerned.
Faus told TV3: “We are in permanent contact with Jorge Messi(Messi’s father and agent) and are talking about all aspects of this improvement (of his contract), they are conversations that [Barca president Josep Maria] Bartomeu is having directly with the player’s father.
“Barcelona fans should not worry, we are all convinced that he will retire in Barca’s shirt.”
Besides Messi, Recent reports have circulated that coach Gerardo Martino will leave Barcelona this summer, suggesting the Catalan club could be tempted into luring Brendan Rodgers away from Liverpool.
“The club are not aware that he is leaving in June. We are working with the idea that he will continue at the club next season,” he said.
“The people who have dealings with him think that he is very switched on.”
