Born in the 90’s, Jay Arc is a promising Ugandan Rapper whose music will blow you away. BigEyeUg caught up with the “Ndi Wakabi” Rapper and brings you the excerpts below.
Who is Jay Arc?
I am Jay ARC, real names Kanaabi Julius Mwesigwa, a son to Ugandan parents from a family of two. I only have one sister who’s 8 years old. I’m a young & futuristic rapper apparently at Uganda Christian University (UCU) pursuing a degree in Industrial and Fine Art.
Positive energy, self-esteem and good music are some of the things that keep me going. I am inspired by my mom, grandma, lots of great people like musicians and life in general.
About Urban Music in Uganda, are we on the right track, what is missing?
Yes, we are on the right track. We’ve been on the right track for years however there’re a couples of things missing. We have so much talent down here that hasn’t been discovered as yet. The corporates should invest in the music industry, we need more serious record labels to discover and invest in young talent. We artistes should also love what we do.
Which Ugandan Rappers do you want to work with and why?
I would love to work with pretty much every talented artiste around regardless of the genre. As long as we connect? I’m ready to work.
Ndi Wakabi is one of your most recognized songs, what is the message in this song for the listeners out there?
Ndi wakabi is my 2nd recorded project. It being my second I put in more energy & effort compared to my first. That got it lots of air play on radio not forgetting it’s my first song that ever played on radio. And just like it is in rap music, every rapper loves/wants to prove they’re the best so Ndi wakabi was one of those. I was simply claiming my spot, haha!
Tell us a little more about your hit song HATER.
Personally I think HATER is my most recognized song. It really got me out there, got radio interviews and exposure. Surprisingly from the writing pad I knew it’d be a great song. It was produced by Aethan and Sam Lamara(Samurae) and that’s my production team.
What is your message to fellow upcoming Rappers?
My message to my colleagues is; let’s keep humble, hardworking, creative & original, God fearing, ready to learn and hopefully we shall be the KINGS of the industry one day. PEACE!
