The make up industry is a thriving business. The industry in Uganda has grown by leaps and bounds since news of celebrities like Kylie Jenner made a billion dollars with makeup and beauty products. In Kampala the sight of women in make up is a daily practice however the most visible allure of make up is when one is scheduled for introductions, birthday parties or wedding ceremonies. So Big Eye caught up with Cecilia a budding make up artiste whose unique business model has guaranteed her Life Time Value for her business.
Cecilia says that the idea mushroomed in her when she had her make up done and amidst the good remarks she got from friends and family at events, her inner short lived happiness would fade. She says, “I thought why not let the inner joy come out and the make up is a compliment. This is because when I sit down with a client, I take keen notice of their interactions, majority are sad, not interested in the event, or being forced to attend it. Others have all manner of personal issues and need a listening ear. So I develop rapport with them, and no it’s not a counseling session, but an empathetic one that sets the tone of which make up, color palettes to use.
I was afraid at the start but clients have invariably thanked me for guiding them into self fulfillment and the make up is just a compliment. She says it’s something she’s adopting from her idol, celebrated songstar and movie actress Jennifer Lopez.
