Veteran Ugandan singer Mesach Semakula has urged people to take care of their parents and share their blessings with them, saying that making parents happy is one of the greatest ways to attract blessings in life.

Speaking during a podcast appearance, Semakula explained that whenever someone receives something good, they should remember their parents and share what they have with them, noting that parental blessings are invaluable.
The singer jokingly referred to the act of making parents happy as the first form of “witchcraft,” drawing on the common perception that people sometimes attribute wealth and success to witchcraft.
“The first witchcraft, let me call it that because that’s what people say when you become rich, that you use witchcraft, the first thing you have to do is to make your parents happy. Every time you pamper your mother and she prays blessings on you, or gift your father something, that’s the first way to unlock a good life,” Semakula said.
He emphasised that showing appreciation to parents does not have to end when they pass away, sharing how he continues to honour his late father through a family gathering held towards the end of every year.
Using his own experience as an example, Semakula revealed that he dedicates the last weekend of the year to remembering his departed father at their family grounds in Buwaate, where relatives gather to reconnect and celebrate their family bond.
According to the singer, the gathering lasts four days, giving family members time to get to know one another, share meals and drinks, and strengthen their relationships.
“We spend four days there getting to know each other as family members, eat and drink, and I believe if my father was still alive, he’d love to see people happy like that, and I know I get blessings from that,” he added.
