After edging SC Villa 4-3 during the Eid cup last week on Friday, Uganda Premier League’s newly promoted side, Maroons Football Club is planning a pre-season camp in Kenya ahead of the new season.
“We plan to hold a training camp in Kenya and play one or two build up games,” head coach, Asaph Mwebaze asserted to Airtel Football.
The Uganda Prisons side has proved to be the good side they used to be before being relegated to the Big League. Since promotion, Maroons have held Express fc to a two-all draw during a friendly three weeks ago before seeing off Villa in a penalty shootout that followed a goalless draw in normal time on Eid.
Maroons also have two friendlies lined up this week against Friends of Football (FOF) and Soana FC on Tuesday, 21st July and Friday, 24th July respectively, with both games scheduled to be played at the Uganda Prisons stadium in Luzira.
With the new faces added into the team, Ashaf Mwebaze thinks that a few friendlies and a buildup in Kenya will be very vital for the recruits to blend with the rest of the team ahead of the new season that kicks off on Friday, 14th August 2015 when league champions Vipers and Uganda Cup winners SC Villa clash in the super cup.
The league will kick off on 21st August 2015.
“We have added into the team several new faces and we shall continue to monitor how best they gel as we get closer to the start of yet another football season,” Mwebaze said.
