FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo has blamed the consistent “football wars” in Uganda for the failure of the game in 2014. He made these remarks during the first press conference of 2015 at the FUFA house in Mengo, Kampala yesterday.
It’s no news when one talks about wars in Ugandan football following the formation of two governing federations that all claimed to be the rightful legal entities that should be controlling the game in the country. The two Federations included one that is being led by Eng. Moses Magogo whose headquarters are located at the FUFA house in Mengo and the other that is under the leadership Daniel Walusimbi who claim that the Magogo FUFA is operating illegally among others.
“The football community in Uganda has not waken-up to the potential that the industry holds that if harmony existed and long term planning starts, hundreds of billions will be generated. The ingredients for football wars are desire for money, power and fame. All stakeholders can achieve the same desires with harmony and long term planning”, reads a statement on the federation’s website.
The president also blamed the failure of the sport on the lack of adequate resources, finances and among other challenges that the federation faced in the year 2014.
“Human resource, finance resource, club football, qualification failure to final tournaments, competitions, general understanding of the modern game, referees allegations of decisions that are not consistent with the laws of the game (deliberate or erroneously) and our failure to pay referees in time affected their performance”, he remarked.
