Is it the team to blame or the head coach? Gor Mahia is on the verge of an early exit from the ongoing 2014 Cecafa Kagame Cup after losing their second game in a row. Kenya Premier League champions, Gor Mahia were beaten 1-0 by Burundi’s Atletico in group B game. The only goal that carried the day for Atletico was scored by Alexis Kitenge Hakizimana in the 72nd minute of the game who beat an offside trap to slot the ball past Jerim Onyango who was standing in Gor Mahia’s goal posts.
After their second consecutive loss of the tournament, head coach Bobby Williamson blamed his boys for having wasted a lot of chances that crowned them losers at the end of the 90minutes.
The coach mentioned of his goal poacher Daniel ‘Mzee’ Sserunkuma and Timothy Otieno who missed from close range and K’Ogalo who was so wasteful in the first 45minutes of the game. Bobby Williamson also apportioned blamed of his team’s poor performance in the tournament to the loss of most star players in the transfer window and he claimed to be having only four players of the team that won the Kenya’s Premier League.
Gor Mahia came into the tournament with all fingers pointing at them as favorites and are now being pointed at as possible earliest exits of the tournament after losing the first two games. The Kenyan side lost 2-1 to Uganda’s champions, KCCA in their group opener at the Amahoro stadium and lost yesterday 1-0 to Brundi’s Atletico.
The two losses now imply that Gor Mahia has to win all its last two ties or else there will be no place left for them at the tournament. Bobby Williamson’s side will be playing Djibouti’s Telecom and Rwanda’s APR FC who they must beat if they are to stand any chance of progression from the group stage to the next level. Gor Mahia’s loss to Atletico now implies that four of the teams in group B are all tied up on three points with two games besides APR FC which has played a game less. Telecom tops group B on a better goal difference followed by APR FC, KCC FC and Atletico FC. Gor Mahia are lying fifth on the table with no point and a negative of two goals.
Match Day four Results:
Gor Mahia FC (Kenya) 0-1 Atletico Olympic (Burundi)
El Merriekh (Sudan) 4-0 Benadir (Somalia)
Police FC (Rwanda) 3–1 Vital’O (Burundi
