Keddi Foundation, a not-for-profit organization fighting poverty, diseases and inequity in Africa, has donated relief items to Bulambuli landslide victims. Among the items which were donated on Sunday include blankets, mattresses and food items.
In addition, the Keddi Foundation also handed over a cheque to the local leaders to support the affected communities.
This comes days after torrential rains caused landslides that buried several villages in Bulambuli district in the mountain Elgon region. Areas affected include the villages of Masugu, Namakere, Kagulu, and Namagugu in Buluganya parish, Buluganya sub-county.
“I learned with deep sorrow the loss of life resulting from a massive landslide that swept the slopes of Mt. Elgon in eastern Uganda,” said Keddi Steven, the founder Keddi Foundation. “These things have been dispatched with much urgency to assist in search and rescue operations and coordinating logistics on the ground.”
With the continuing rains and a heightened fear of more landslides, attention is turning to the relocation of residents to safer areas. The donated items will go a long way in supporting these efforts.
