Hosts KCCA FC are taking nothing to chance as they plan for early goals to frustrate El Merreikh when the two sides battle in the second leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round on Saturday.
“We are going all out for goals because that will be very important since we lead after the first leg. But we also have to be cautious at the back,” coach George Nsimbe told MTNFootball.com this morning.
Tony Odur and Herman Wasswa, who netted the goals in the 2-0 victory in Khartoum last weekend, will lead KCCA’s attack, although the return of attacking midfielder Steven Bengo should add to KCCA FC’s firepower.
Nsimbe explained that although they are aware of what their opponents will plan to do on Saturday, he called upon local fans to come in big numbers and rely behind the team.
The Sudanese giants will rely on stars like Ahmed El Basha, Ramathan Alagab and Ragel Abdalla, who scored in their 4-0 League victory over Al Ahli Khartoum on Tuesday.
Their German coach Michael Kruger has said they are not in Uganda for sightseeing, but serious business.
“We played a good game in Khartoum, but were only unlucky not to score and be caught on two counter attacks,” he explained.
In 2009 El Merreikh beat KCCA FC 1-0 in Kampala before the two sides settled for a 1-1 draw in the return leg in Khartoum at the same level of the CAF Champions League.
If KCCA FC eliminates El Merreikh, they will face the winner between Zambia’s Nkana Red Devils and Swaziland’s Mbabane Swallows.
