Buganda’s Katikkiro (Prime Minister), Charles Peter Mayiga, has issued a directive banning Gravity Omutujju’s music from being played on Buganda Kingdom’s media outlets, including BBS Terefayina and CBS FM.
During a meeting at Bulange Mengo on Monday, December 9, where he hosted legendary singer Lord Fred Ssebatta, Mayiga expressed his dissatisfaction with the controversial nature of Gravity Omutujju’s music.
He instructed staff at the two media houses to refrain from airing the artist’s songs, warning that those who defy the directive will be held personally accountable.
The Katikkiro criticized Gravity Omutujju for producing songs that, in his words, “disturb the public and fail to uphold Buganda’s values.” He questioned the intent behind the artist’s provocative lyrics, asking, “Why does he sing such disturbing songs? Have you decided now to abandon grooming your talent to unsettling people? What is the aim?”
Mayiga also addressed similar concerns about another artist, Yasin Mukasa, popularly known as Lil Pazo, whose music he described as equally troubling.
He cautioned artists against relying on controversy to gain fame, emphasizing that such tactics often lead to fleeting success.
“An artist who gains popularity through controversial and offensive language risks a short-lived career,” the Katikkiro remarked.
