The Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) has summoned artists Gravity Omutujju and Lil Pazo Lunabe to address concerns over alleged vulgar content in their recent songs.
In a letter signed by Phina Mugerwa, released on December 3, 2024, the UNCC invited the artists to a meeting scheduled for Monday, December 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the National Theatre.
The meeting aims to discuss songs like Okwepicha, Enyama, Doozi, and Omunio by Gravity Omutujju, as well as Enkudi and Ensujju by Lil Pazo, which the UNCC claims do not align with Uganda’s cultural values and norms.
“As part of our mandate to preserve, promote, and popularize art and culture locally and internationally, we invite you to a dialogue about your content. These songs not only challenge our cultural identity but also threaten the sustainability of the creative sector for future generations,” Mugerwa stated in the letter.
The UNCC emphasized the need for artists to consider cultural sensitivities in their work, urging them to attend the meeting for the betterment of the Ugandan creative industry.
As of now, neither Gravity Omutujju nor Lil Pazo has responded to the summons, leaving fans and stakeholders uncertain about their next move.
