Kanye West was booed when he stopped his concert to engage in a lengthy rant at the Wireless Festival on Friday night (July 4).
The rapper wore a bejewelled mask for the opening portion of his set at Finsbury Park in London, which was interrupted by his diatribe.
West was met with growing boos as he complained about the treatment of himself and wife Kim Kardashian, and also singled out Louis Vuitton and Nike for trying to stop him from “living [his] dream”.
“The first thing they do is crush you… They control you with lies,” he sang repeatedly before beginning his off-the-cuff remarks.
“How many people have had people tell you that you aren’t f**kin’ awesome?” West then asked those in the crowd, who responded with boos.
He responding to the jeering by saying: “This is what I’m talking about…. They say, ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with Kanye’ and make it sound like I’m a bad person in some way. What have I ever done that was so wrong other than believe in myself?”
West went on to say that he has been the victim of “dehumanisation” from his critics, with jeers increasing.
“I’m not going to mention any names but… Nike, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. Don’t discriminate against me because I’m a black man making music,” he later charged.
“F**k saving face and what it’s supposed to mean, it’s about living my dream.”
