The Kampala High Court has granted bail to city socialite Nasser Nduhukire, popularly known as Don Nasser, after nearly three months on remand at Luzira Prison.

He was released on a cash bail of Shs 3 million, while his sureties were each required to execute a non-cash bond of Shs 50 million.

As part of his bail conditions, the court confiscated Nduhukire’s passport and restricted his travel abroad without prior permission. Additionally, he must report to the court registrar monthly for six months.

Don Nasser was arrested in September alongside Promise Gatete on charges of aggravated trafficking in children for sexual exploitation.

The allegations stem from an incident involving the transportation of a 16-year-old girl from Tagore Apartments in Kamwokya to the Kito-Kira Division, where she was reportedly held captive for three days.

Both Nasser and Gatete have denied the charges but were remanded to Luzira pending trial. The maximum penalty for aggravated trafficking in children is death.

According to reports, the victim, a secondary school student, communicated with Nasser over the phone to arrange meetings. The situation escalated when her parents discovered the socialite was allegedly providing drugs to their daughter.

The girl’s father, identified as a high-ranking security officer, vowed to ensure justice was served. When Nasser learned he was being pursued, he reportedly fled to the Democratic Republic of Congo before moving to Kenya. He was apprehended in Nairobi in September.

Timeline of Events

• May 3 to May 27: The crime allegedly occurred, beginning with the victim meeting Promise Gatete at Aura Bar in Kololo. Gatete is said to have introduced her to Don Nasser at Tagore Apartments.

• June 15: The case was reported to Kira Road Police.

• September: Nasser was arrested in Nairobi and later remanded to Luzira Prison.

The court emphasized strict measures to ensure Nduhukire’s compliance. His bail conditions highlight the gravity of the charges, and his trial before the High Court will determine the next steps.
