Kizito Joseph popularly known as Joseph Sax is one of Uganda’s celebrated saxophonists. He started playing music way back in 2001 in a brass band while in Primary school and got introduced to wind instruments at the age of 14.
He learnt his Saxophone from a Dutch music teacher called Petra Wotters and since then, Joseph has become one of Uganda’s best saxophonists with quite a number of projects under his belt.
His project with Bobi wine on the song “For Better For Worse” featuring Nubian Li gave him a massive introduction to the music industry in Uganda and this opened the gates for him to work with several known artistes’ like Jose Chameleone, Iryn Namubiru, Mesach Ssemakula among others.
In an interview with NRG Radio Uganda, Joseph mentions that despite all these features and wide exposure, his collaboration with Bobi Wine turned out to be a major turning point in his musical journey.
The song which was released 11 years ago after Bobi Wine’s wedding with his soulmate Barbie Kyagulanyi Itungo went on to be a must play on weddings and introductions until date.
Joseph has been nominated for awards as the best instrumentalist both locally and internationally. In 2020, he won the Best Instrumentalist award at the 38th International Reggae and World Music Awards, surpassing Jamaican Saxophonist Dean Fraser to scoop the Best Instrumentalist award at the 38th Jamaica-based International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA).
He casually joined the Zoe Fellowship but soon got firmly rooted there as their worship team’s saxophonist, where he plays to date as a devout Christian man.
