In the world of Sports, the Ugandan athletes have managed to start on the project of setting up a quality high altitude facility in Uganda situated in the Northern region in the district of Kapchorwa. Before, Ugandan athletes had to visit Kenya constantly to train and consolidate their talent in order to compete favourably with others on world standards.
This has followed the delay of action on the appeal of athletes asking the government for a high altitude facility handed in through the Ministry of sports. Well, the Athletes association spearheaded by lonely Dorcus Inzikuru, Stephen Kiprotich, Jackson Kiprop and Moses Kipsiro, have agreed to deduct money from their salaries and bonus funds from international competitions to put in place their own training facility.
At a marathon event organised in Kapchorwa, the steeple chase gold winner Inzikuru said, “We have always been lacking speed, a reason we have been training from Kenya. Now we don’t need to take any other athlete to Kenya since we can organise ourselves to construct a training ground that can help us in improving our performance.”
She further clarified that “We have failed to tap golden talent from the villages since some training facilities are far from the upcoming youngsters.”
Dorcus continued to talk about her retirement saying that: “I’ve been injured for quite some time but I’m not thinking about retirement at the moment. But as of now, I’m preparing for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and will stick to 3,000m steeplechase and I plan to retire after the 2020 Olympics in Japan.”
