The internet is fast becoming integral to daily life in Africa, with over 167 million web users on the continent and that number rising rapidly.

Now, Lamudi, founded by Africa Internet Holding (AIH) and leading real estate player Lamudi has visualised trends in Africa’s internet usage. A global e-commerce venture operating in emerging markets, Lamudi has created an infographic comparing internet uptake in countries across the continent. An analysis by Lamudi reveals that Morocco has Africa’s highest internet penetration rate, with more than half the country connected to the web.

Over the past decade, internet use in Africa has been gaining speed. Across the continent, 16 per cent of the population now has access to the web, with more added every day as the region experiences strong economic growth and rapid urbanization. According to data from Internet World Statistics, the African countries with the most internet users are:

– Nigeria: 48.4 million online users or 28% of the population

– Egypt: 29.8 million users or 36% of the population

– Morocco: 16.5 million users or 51% of the population

– Kenya: 12 million users or 28% of the population

– South Africa: 8.5 million users or 17.4% of the population

Sacha Poignonnec, Co-CEO Africa Internet Holding, said: “The significance in the numbers of internet users in Africa indicate not only the scale of Africa’s online presence, but the perfect opportunity to be investing in e-commerce ventures in the emerging market. Internet usage is being integrated into Africa’s modern way of life and rising right across the continent. As more and more users head online to shop for and advertise homes, our platform will continue to expand with this growing internet audience, particularly in countries like Nigeria, Morocco and Kenya where we already have operate and hold a strong presence in the market.”

Whether people are looking for properties for rent or for sale, the internet platform Lamudi enables customers to easily find or sell their house, apartment, commercial property or land online. At the same time, property providers and agents get a trusted online presence through a personalized webpage. Key characteristics of Lamudi are its diverse property offers, the intuitive website set-up and the high security standards to avoid fraud.
