Instagram is coming to Windows Phone — and this time, it’s official.
Nokia announced Instagram’s arrival alongside its new additions, the Lumia 2520 Windows RT tablet and the Lumia 1520 Windows Phone 8 smartphone, at Nokia World: Abu Dhabi.
“Our ultimate goal is to bring Instagram to everyone who wants to use it,” Instagram co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to watching the Windows Phone community use Instagram to capture and share beautiful moments in the coming weeks.”
For Windows Phone, getting Instagram support is a big deal. It signals to application developers that the platform is important enough for one of the world’s most popular apps to grant official support. When I reviewed the Lumia 920 last year, it was my biggest app request.
Third-party apps have previously stepped in to sort-of fill the void, but nothing beats having official support.
Instagram isn’t the only important app heading to Windows Phone; Flipboard and Vine are also on the way.
