A lady by the name Miss Michelle Ngari on Facebook alerted many of her online friends of her tribulations at the hands of Prostitution. According to her post, she began Prostitution in 2013, when she was only 20.
At that time, she had a kid, no job and no educational qualification that could allow her a stable white collar job. Out of necessity, she began to roam the nights in search of clients, men with insatiable egos, huge sexual appetite and money to spend. Koinange Street became her preferred destination, which is known to have a steady flow of customers, rich and poor alike, all clamoring for the same commodity issued without a receipt or a tax levy.
“On average, I used to sleep with five to ten clients daily. The money was good, and occasionally you get lucky and end up at the back of a politician’s Mercedes. They are notorious for wanting to do unorthodox things but pay handsomely. My son is 12 now, I have a salon business in Mathare, but the problem is, I can’t stop going back to Koinange. I have tried, but find myself craving for the prying eyes of a potential client, the negotiating, and eventual sex encounter. Am a Sex Addict, and as much as I’d like to keep it to myself, I can’t take it anymore” she made her case clear, earning both the sympathy and glare of online users.
Being a sex Addict is tough. I can guarantee that Michelle isn’t the only one. It’s a trait that has far-reaching consequences, with the constant threat of exposure to STIs, HIV and other transmissible infections. It is not easy, to rid oneself with such addictions, as they extend their grip down to the core of our personality, leaving us with only a handful of options. For Michelle, she confessed that regardless of how many men she sleeps with, she is not satisfied and must seek more. It is ruining her life, her reputation and most importantly, her sense of humanity and values.
As a society, we have to admit that such addictions are rampant. The list of victims keeps growing, the rot in society becomes more suffocating and our beliefs and values are soon going to be wiped from exisence.
