Bongo music sensation Diamond Platnumz, has revealed that he would one day love to be Tanzania’s Minister for Sports.
Speaking exclusively to Radio Citizen on Willy Tuva’s Mambo Mseto Show on Wednesday, the singer said his dream is to become Tanzania’s Sports Minister even though he is currently cautious about venturing into politics.
“I am a bit scared of going into politics for now. The area has a lot of issues to be addressed. However, my dream is to one day become Tanzania’s Minister for Sports and Culture. I believe I am capable,” said Diamond.
The singer further revealed that he had already informed his mother about that particular dream.
“I have already told my mother and my family that I would love the sports ministry to be my docket in the future.”
The singer said he is confident he is the right person for the task as he has already identified the gaps that need to be filled in the sports and culture sector.
Diamond went ahead to say that sometimes ministers are appointed to respective dockets without necessarily having the required experience and skills to address emerging issues in those areas.
“I have observed there are issues which are at times left unattended to. This is not because the minister in charge chooses to ignore them, but because he or she has no skill or expertise to identify, let alone address them.”
Diamond however insisted for now he is addressing his personal issues, and has no interest whatsoever to venture into politics.
The singer though encouraged his fellow musicians who have expressed interest in political seats to push on and realise their dreams.
“If an artist sees the potential in himself or herself to represent the people in whichever capacity, I highly encourage them to go for it. Though they should go with the full mentality of serving the people” said the singer.
He went ahead to ask the electorate not to look down upon artists because of their entertainment work, but instead to give them an opportunity to represent if they show potential of capability.
“One should not demean somebody simply because that person is an artist, and so thinking he won’t be capable. If the artist managed to convince members of the public to listen to his work, then I think he can do much more if he is in position of authority,” said Diamond.
