Two weeks into their new roles hosting the Morning Switch on Next Radio, the trio of Hakeem the Dream, Maritza, and Richard Tuwangye is already feeling like morning radio here will be a hit.
The trio was unveiled at the official relaunch of Uganda’s first-ever audio-visual station. Their gelling and chemistry growth rate are quite something to write home about – undying love and support from fans both calling in and reaching out via social media has also gone to show the extent of this, with many professing eagerness to tune in every morning while making their way to work.
One Ivan Mukiiza had already struggled to hide his excitement for the trio even before hitting the airwaves, “With Maritza and Tuwangye on the same show, I think my loyalty to some station will be tested, and I will likely cheat. Just let me know the time, and I enjoy it. Cheating is forgivable.”
Radio guru, Kella McKenzie, also took to Twitter to give Maritza her flowers; “MamaKLA is legit! She knows what she is doing at every given moment. Love it.”
“Morning Switch is made up of everything every Ugandan needs in the morning, and the reviews so far do agree with this. Few things are better than waking up to the humour of Richard Tuwangye, the wittiness of Maritza, and Hakeem the Dream’s charm,” said Next Radio Brand Manager, Nicholas Ngobi.
Popularly known as MamaKLA, Maritza is an eccentric, articulate, and artsy media personality, blogger, and spoken word artist who uses her gift of the gab to explore and share experiences as a millennial in Uganda.
Richard Tuwangye is a multi-faceted creative and performing artist. A comedian of cut-across appeal, film actor, events MC, adman, and copywriter, he also creates music for fun.
Hakeem brings quick wit and the occasional mile-a-minute rant, relatable and energetic vibes. There is no organic way to avoid his content. You may as well give in to it.
The Morning Switch airs every weekday from 6:00 am to 10:00 am.
