Gulu Resident District Commissioner, Maj Santos Okot Lapolo has launched MTN MoMoPay in Northern Uganda today.

Speaking at an event where he was the guest of honour at O Cafe in Gulu, Maj Okot officially announced the service ready for use for his people. He went ahead to be the first customer to officially use the service by ordering for a cup of coffee which was heavily discounted thanks to a promotion being run by MTN.

Speaking at the event, the RDC said that MTN has changed the way people communicate and transact business and thanked them for considering Gulu.

“20 years ago, we used to line up for an old fashioned phone. To make a call, you had to wait for long. But when MTN came, I first wondered what it was all about.I picked a lot of interest and I was one of the franchisers of MTN. Because of competition I was kicked out. As you come to launch MTN MoMoPay, you have beaten all the competitors and I congratulate you.” he said.

“Everybody who comes in this trade must be examined. I thank all at MTN for this. Imagine a situation where we used to go line up in banks, these days the line is on your phone. I urge my people to be IT literate. We will help to promote this.” he added.
