Women entrepreneurs across Uganda are being encouraged to take advantage of free business support services under the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women (GROW) Project, a government initiative aimed at strengthening women-owned enterprises.
The GROW Project, a flagship programme of the Government of Uganda, is being implemented by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development in partnership with the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), with support from the World Bank.
As part of efforts to promote inclusive economic growth, the project has intensified its support through specialized “Business Clinics” designed to equip women with practical business skills and confidence to grow their enterprises.
According to the project organizers, the clinics are intended to go beyond ordinary classroom training by creating spaces where women entrepreneurs can gain knowledge, mentorship, and the confidence needed to compete effectively in the business sector.
The initiative focuses on addressing challenges that many women face while running businesses, including limited access to financial knowledge, weak market connections, and lack of awareness about legal protections and opportunities.
The clinics offer training in several key business areas, including business planning, financial literacy, negotiation skills, legal rights, and market linkages.
Through business planning sessions, participants are guided on how to create sustainable strategies that can help their enterprises grow in the long term.
Financial literacy training helps women understand cash flow management, investment, and accounting practices necessary for business success.
The programme also equips women with negotiation skills to help them secure better business deals and partnerships.
In addition, participants are educated about their legal rights and how to navigate regulations affecting businesses in Uganda.
Another major focus of the clinics is connecting women entrepreneurs to wider markets both locally and internationally, enabling them to expand their customer base and improve profitability.
Project organizers say the overall mission of the GROW Project is to transform small-scale businesses into strong and competitive enterprises that can contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s economy.
The project’s message to women entrepreneurs is clear: “Take part. Build your future.”
Officials believe the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring women are not left behind in national economic development due to lack of resources, skills, or technical support.
