Google dumps porn from its ads

In March, Google announced that it would ban pornographic ads from its AdWords network, which supplies the sponsored results in Google searches. Monday, Google sent an email to relevant advertisers informing them that the changes are imminent: in the coming weeks, all ads that “promote graphic depictions of sexual acts” will be done away with, according to CNBC.

The move is hardly the first time Google has tangoed with controversial ads. Earlier this year, the company banned dating service Ashley Madison from advertising in Japan, and its policy has long forbidden advertisements for prostitution and escort services. But with hundreds of millions of searches for “porn” and related words composed every month, adult industry advertisers who haven’t jumped ship yet will be scrambling for a new business plan.
