Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) on Tuesday evening confirmed that Lawrence Mulindwa will not seek re-election in August.
This comes after reports that Mulindwa, in power since 2005 when he replaced the late Denis Obua, told his executive on Monday that he would not stand again.
“It’s true the Fufa president Mr. Lawrence Mulindwa on Monday addressed his Executive Committee members at Fufa House and hinted on his intentions not to seek another term of office in the forthcoming elections scheduled for 30th August 2013,” reads in part a communication dispatched by communications head Rogers Mulindwa.
“An official statement to this effect will be released to the public if found necessary in the near future. The president’s decision to opt out of football administration is, however, purely a personal choice and he is not succumbing to any pressure.”
The executive were said to be in a meeting trying to front a successor, with vice presidents Mujib Kasule (Super League) and Moses Magogo (administration) the front runners.
