Sensational Ugandan fashionista Brian Ahumuza, popularly known as Abryanz, has been appointed to the fashion committee of the BRICS+ Fashion Summit, which recently took place in Moscow.

The event gathered leaders from fashion associations across more than 50 countries, culminating in the announcement of the BRICS International Fashion Federation.

This new organization aims to establish global fashion centers of influence, strengthen international collaboration, improve sustainability in the industry, and offer growth opportunities for emerging designers.

Abryanz, who is also the CEO of the Uganda Fashion Designers Association, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative.

“The BRICS International Fashion Federation has the potential to significantly foster international collaboration by creating structured opportunities for designers, artisans, and manufacturers to work together on joint ventures, exhibitions, and collections. This can help open up new markets, enabling designers from Uganda, for example, to reach audiences in Russia, Brazil, or India,” he stated.

A memorandum establishing the BRICS International Fashion Federation was signed by representatives from fashion weeks, textile associations, and educational institutions from several countries, including India, South Africa, Russia, Ethiopia, Egypt, Spain, the USA, Indonesia, Malaysia, Ghana, Tanzania, Jordan, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Kenya.

The countries involved confirmed that cooperation with emerging fashion markets is a promising direction.

Natalya Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow, emphasized the significance of this development, saying, “The creation of this International Federation is a major outcome of the recent BRICS+ Fashion Summit in Moscow. It demonstrates once again the shared goals and substantial potential for growth that we have with our global colleagues.”

The BRICS+ Fashion Summit, held from October 3-5 in Moscow, is recognized as the largest fashion event for emerging markets.

Over 100 countries participated, highlighting the global reach and influence of the summit.

One of the primary missions of the newly formed BRICS International Fashion Federation is to strengthen and expand ties between fashion organizations worldwide.

The federation welcomes members who share its principles, with applications to join becoming available once the structure is established and the website launched.

The federation’s declaration focuses on several key objectives: supporting local talent, promoting sustainable fashion, enhancing cultural exchange, and developing a shared platform for emerging markets.

Other goals include advancing new technologies, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting arts and crafts.

In its statement, the federation emphasized its commitment to providing designers with both global platforms and local events, ensuring their work is celebrated worldwide.

“Our goal is to promote sustainable and eco-friendly practices, striving to implement transparent methodologies that will significantly reduce the fashion industry’s carbon footprint. Slow fashion, characterized by mindful consumption and production, will be at the heart of the BRICS IFF agenda as we strive to reduce the environmental impact of fashion,” the statement concluded.
