Mawokota North Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Kiyaga Hilary, popularly known as Dr. Hilderman, has shed light on the reasons behind the National Unity Platform (NUP) President Bobi Wine’s opposition to the government’s decision to allocate Ugx.13 billion to the Uganda Musicians’ Body.
Last year, Bobi Wine criticized the government’s move to provide a stimulus package of Ugx.13 Billion to the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), terming it as a fraudulent scheme orchestrated by certain UNMF members.
However, Hon. Hilderman, who is also a member of the NUP and an artist, has taken the initiative to elucidate Bobi Wine’s position on the matter. Speaking to Sanyuka TV, Hilderman explained that it is not that the NUP Principal is against investing in the music industry.
Instead, Bobi Wine is concerned about the potential misappropriation, misallocation, and misuse of the allocated resources, leading to widespread frustrations within the industry.
“It’s not that the NUP Principal doesn’t want the industry to be invested in, but misappropriation, misallocation, and misuse of resources have led to frustrations,” Hon. Hilderman conveyed during the interview.
Hilderman’s clarification aims to provide a nuanced understanding of Bobi Wine’s reservations about the government’s financial support for the music sector.
The concerns raised revolve around ensuring transparency and accountability in the disbursement and utilization of the allocated funds to foster genuine development within the Ugandan music industry.
