Uganda Cranes registered a confidence-building victory on Saturday ahead of next weekend’s must-win World Cup qualifying decider against Senegal when they beat hosts Botswana 3-1 in a friendly in Gaborone.
Emmanuel Okwi grabbed a goal in either half as Micho Sredojevic’s men tasted an away win as they prepare to attempt one of a kind against Senegal next Saturday if they are to progress to the final round of Brazil 2014 campaign. Tebogo Sembowa scored the hosts’ consolation.
This was Uganda’s first ever win over the Zebras, the first two having ended goalless. Okwi gave the Cranes the lead on 17 minutes when he buried home Vincent Kayizzi’s cross.
The striker added the second shortly after restart but Sembowa’s reduced the deficit to make 2-1 after the hour.
However, Micho’s men ensured an emphatic away victory when substitute Frank Kalanda scored the third late on for a good reading 3-1 scoreline. Micho made all six allowed substitutions.
The Cranes now proceed to Istanbul, Turkey for a four-day camp before connecting to Marrakech, Morocco where next Saturday’s clash against Senegal will be hosted.
