Canaan Gents revolutionizing the art of acapella

Canaan gents

By Nimusiima

You must have probably bumped into them, haven’t you? No? I have. I have seen them perform. I have seen them croon. I have seen hum and sing and whistle into microphones, all suited up and looking suave, like gentlemen. Acapella art of music performances has been there for yonks, but these gentlemen seem to add salt and pepper and other ingredients to make it seem too tasty. They are not only the future of the acapella, they are already in the future of acapella. I have been to events where these lads have performed and I have witnessed a revolution being silently sparked off. I have seen ladies literally plucking off their ears in hysterical fervor, trying to tap on their musical fountain. They have the voices. They have the looks. And they are gentlemen. Just enough to make the ladies’ hearts throb.

Comprised of Mark Tugume (alto), Alvin Tashobya (bass), Samuel Lubwama (baritone), Andrew Nyombi (tenor) and Charles Ssentogo (beat boxing), Canaan Gents was formed in 2010. And they have been winning people’s hearts since then, one voice at a time, one performance at a time. They are in church, singing in a performance devoid of instrumentation. They flag off as a gospel outfit. Perhaps it’s their suaveness and dapperness that make them stick out like a hurting toe. It is evident from the way they dress and the way they sing and the way they talk and the way they carry themselves. Like real gentlemen on a mission to take over the art of acapella. They have. Already.
