After a prolonged legal battle, musician Bruno K has emerged victorious in his case against Black Market Records.
The High Court has ruled in his favor, ordering the record label to compensate him with UGX 130 million for copyright infringement and wrongful withholding of his royalties.
Bruno K signed a contract with Black Market Records in early 2020, hoping for a beneficial partnership. However, he later discovered that the deal was unfavorable and decided to terminate the contract.
Despite his departure, the label continued to claim ownership over his music, including withholding his royalties and seizing control of his YouTube channel.
Although he eventually regained access to the channel, the legal dispute over his earnings persisted.
After thorough proceedings, the High Court ruled in Bruno K’s favor, awarding him UGX 100 million in general damages and an additional UGX 30 million in aggravated damages.
The court further stipulated that if the label fails to pay the amount, an annual interest rate of 14% will be applied from the date of judgment.
