Is Burna Boy, Fela Kuti’s Reincarnation?

Published

on

By Staff Writer

I rarely hype music artistes. By the time I make the noise, it is worth the hype.

Last night I listened to every track on Burna Boy’s “African Giant” album. It is then that I realized I have not been giving Burna Boy enough respect.

I should have seen it coming with his “Ye” song. It is not actually a song, it is an anthem. But that is a story for another day.

Back to the African Giant, it made me believe in reincarnation. I could feel the spirit of Fela Kuti running through each track. Luckily, a friend did tell me that indeed Burna Boy’s mother was Fela’s dancer while the grandfather was Fela’s band manager.

The name Fela is not one you simply throw around. But on the African Giant album, it is worth taking the risk of throwing this name around.

If you listen to Anybody, and suffer some Collateral Damage, refuse to keep it a Secret knowing it could lead to your Destiny, Omo it could even be This Side then you will have one confession to make Burna is Different, his is worth the Show and Tell but above all, he is an African Giant.

The future will worship Burna Boy, he came off as a spirit medium on that album. That album is everything, revolutionary, transcendental meditation, say it all, it is charged with energy from the ancestors.

I apologize for not respecting Burna enough much earlier…
