After years of a well-documented and often heated rivalry, Ugandan music giant Bebe Cool has finally opened up about the root of his unrelenting grudge against fellow singer-turned-politician Bobi Wine. Speaking during an appearance at the Bride and Groom Expo earlier today, Bebe Cool shed light on a personal incident he says has left a lasting scar — one he’s not willing to overlook without a public apology.
According to Bebe Cool, the breaking point came during one of the most difficult times in his personal life — when his wife, Zuena Kirema, left him. He emotionally narrated how Bobi Wine used the moment to mock him instead of offering empathy or support.
“What hurt me most was that at my lowest, when Zuena left me, Bobi Wine used that moment to laugh at me. ” Bebe Cool recounted. “Yet during the times when he and Barbie had misunderstandings, she would come to my home for refuge.”
The Wire Wire hitmaker described the betrayal as deeply personal and one that cut beyond their usual musical or political rivalry. While the two have often clashed over political ideologies and industry leadership, Bebe Cool made it clear that this particular issue was different — and far more personal.
“This wasn’t about music or politics. This was brotherhood. I opened my doors when his own home was shaking, but when it was my turn to hurt, he mocked me,” Bebe Cool said, adding that he had kept quiet for years out of respect for their past and for the sake of their families.
Bebe Cool made it known that only one thing could possibly mend the rift: “I will never forgive him unless he publicly apologizes. Until then, we will never be on the same page.”
The revelation adds another chapter to the long-standing feud between the two iconic Ugandan artists, who both rose to fame in the early 2000s and have since taken divergent paths — Bobi Wine into politics as the leader of the National Unity Platform, and Bebe Cool as a vocal supporter of the ruling government.
While fans have long hoped for reconciliation, today’s disclosure may put those hopes on hold — at least until Bobi Wine responds.
