At BigEye.ug, We Think Different, We Keep Hungry, We Keep Foolish

By Ian Ortega

In 2012, we had a simple dream, something that was not about the money as per say, but to give a brand new angle to Entertainment, to bring passion to the field. This is not something we did for the sake of money; we always knew that if we kept doing what we love and did it passionately, the money would come in.

For purposes of summary, I won’t be repeating the story of BigEye.ug, we shared this a few months back. I will go straight to what we believe in as a Company and as a website.

It gives me a great honour to have been voted the Best Entertainment Website in Uganda at the inaugural Social Media Awards. Honours like these rarely come for Companies that are just months shy of their second anniversary. Nonetheless, in a country where 90% of businesses close up before they celebrate their first Birthday, an Entertainment website deserves kudos. Getting appreciated is not something to be taken lightly.

OUR BELIEFS AS BIGEYE.UG
This is what we believe in as BigEye.ug, we believe that we don’t have much time on this world; our moments on earth are already limited so we should really add more life to our years on this world. We live in a very noisy and complicated world, whatever we have to do; we must do it to our very best.

Our core standard as a company is about creating and delivering value in a passionate way. Regardless of who will be in charge of BigEye.ug a year from now, these pillars upon which BigEye.ug is anchored should never be broken. The pillars of creating and delivering value in a passionate way should never be erased.

Secondly, as a Company, the BigEye Group of Companies, we believe in the notion of THINK DIFFERENT. We don’t care whether it has never been done before, if it’s valuable, if it gives people better lives, if it entertains people, then we shall always go where there is no path and leave a trail. We want to leave a mark on our generation. We also believe that BigEye Group should be able to outlive its founders; 20 years from now, this should be a brand that should still be making impact on this world.

STAYING HUNGRY
We never want to get satisfied, satisfaction breeds mediocrity. We always want to keep setting Big gigantic goals that make people laugh at us then going right out in the playfield and making these dreams a reality.
We have to desire for better every single day, we should always look for better ways of delivering the products and services we offer. We never want the feeling of GOOD to blind us from the target of GREAT. Just because we are doing good should never stop us from aiming for great. Thus we shall always stay hungry as a company; we shall always keep yearning for more. Any employee of BigEye.ug should never feel satisfied with their current level; one should always strive to go the extra mile. And like the Japanese have it in the Kaizen Principle; “always break the records you set.” Or like the founder of Daily Monitor and Observer, late Kevin Aliro said; “Whatever we have done so far can always be done better if only we try a little bit harder.”

STAYING FOOLISH
Our business model is a foolish one; it defies all traditional business models. We are ready to try new things, we have no pleasure in getting comfortable, and our business model is one of adventure. We follow our hearts to the core, and this defies logic most of the times. Even if the founders exit the company, we believe that anyone who succeeds us should always rely on that sixth sense; that gut feeling.

We have always defined conventional wisdom. We only live once and we want to make this once to count. We are ready to learn more, to burn the bridges and start afresh in complete new fields. As a company, we should stay foolish and think out of the box, come up with simpler ways of doing things, ways that are more entertaining. Everything about BigEye as a company can change but these cores should never change. These are the things that have kept us alive. We should always hunger for more information and always try out new things. Every employee of this company should know this.

IN SUMMARY:
To echo the words from the award acceptance speech; “BigEye.ug is about passion; you thought of us as the best Entertainment website, allowing us to stay hungry and foolish.”

These are the three slogans that should always guide BigEye Group of Companies and BigEye.ug for all ages;
1. Do it for the PASSION, if you don’t love it, don’t do it.
2. Create and deliver Value, Value is what matters in all we do.
3. Let’s think different, by staying HUNGRY and staying FOOLISH

To King Brian, thanks for the great work as a CEO of the Company and Co-founder, keep hungry.
To Salim Segawa, thanks for the one year services you offered us, we wish you the best as CEO of UrbanHype
To Stuart G-Khast, these core values of BigEye.ug should never be forgotten.
To Hood Lighta, keep foolish, always strive to innovate and invent.
To Edwin Junior, keep young and keep loving it at the family.
To Isaac Mites, passion, passion, never forget those words Brother.
To Ian Ford, the name Ian is about being humble, let that never escape from your head.
Finally, to you the person reading this, because you believed in us, we did something, if you could tell others to believe in us, and know that this is about you, not about us, we can hit the greatness pick.

Otherwise, all the best of blessings

In his statement through his spokesperson he made it clear that while it was also his desire to join NUP, it was also the party’s intention to subscribe to NUP and as a member he could only oblige.

“Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone as a member of DP block does not defy his party policies and decisions. When DP block decided to join NUP he was obliged.” Stuart Kagoro speaking for Chameleone posted.

Marcus and Karitas; Nxt Radio’s “agemates” with an infectious chemistry

Uganda’s undisputed Queen of Radio, Karitas Karisimbi, will be one of the very few entertainment personalities that will have some reasons to look back at the Coronavirus pandemic.

Ever since she started co-hosting Nxt Radio’s “Morning Zoo” alongside the fellow veteran Marcus Kwikiriza, Karitas has been on an upward spiral, with her crazy sense of homour.

In a sit-down discussion we had with her, she dished out on the gist;

“I’m officially starting my second month as the Morning Zoo co-host. I love the show; it is a mature place (is that a dig at Ronnie McVex, with whom she fought while they worked together on Nxt Radio’s Transit?). I jell well with Marcus because I’ve known him for a long time, and the fact that we’re agemates, work is more than fun. Its morning laughs and more jokes during those 4 morning hours. It’s one great way to start my day every day,” Karitas said of her transition from the evening drive show to the early morning show.

Nalongo, as she is popularly known, smilingly hinted that waking up early is a challenge she looks forward to conquering.

When Nxt Radio first announced the move to pair the Old Skool duo, there was excitement among Nxt Radio’s online fans that had occasionally demanded the duo. Its therefore likely that the move was provoked by audience feedback and brought to life by the General Manager, Marcus that it a good move to make mornings on radio more fun.

Karitas, just like Marcus, is an experienced media personality, mostly remembered for her hugely successful stint as host of the then-famous `Showtime Magazine’ on WBS TV in the early 2000s.

The past month the morning duo have spent together has provoked chemistry with a cocktail of humour and fun, a litmus test we are looking forward to taking after 100 days of the Morning Zoo with Marcu and Karitas. The innovation has been of a brain thinking outside the box. In the past 30 days, we noticed the duo hosting the show on Fridays’ from the luxurious Mestil Hotel amidst delicious breakfast snacks and suspected expensive “teas’ with Italian names.

The “Morning Zoo” has introduced what they have called “Fro-Back Fridays,” playing some of the best old school music to kickstart their audiences’ weekends, with different guest-DJs playing every week.

You can catch Marcus and Karitas on the “Morning Zoo” Monday to Friday from 6:00 to 10:00 am on Nxt Radio 106.1 FM, or StarTimes Channel 234 (this is part where you can watch the duo live on air). Alternatively, you can stream them LIVE via the Nxt Radio app or through nextradio.co.ug/live.

Talented, Beautiful, Modest, these three words describe singer/songwriter Beckie Johnz perfectly. Born in Ethiopia and mostly grew up in Kenya and came to Australia in 2005 when she was 15 years old. In her early teens, Beckie grew up in a Christian family, whereby she went to church and was involved in a choir. Beckie looked up to her choir masters and even though she was shy as a child, this gave her the confidence to want to use her God given talent to pursue a career in the music industry. Beckie started singing at a very young age even though her family members weren’t supportive of her.

Up until when she arrived to Australia, Beckie always kept in the back of her mind that if she were to be presented the opportunity to pursue her passion that she would always take that chance.Growing up, Beckie has always been inspired by music legends such as Nyankol Mathiang Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, usher Raymond, Alicia Keys and Toni Braxton, Keysha cole as well as the Destiny childs. She says that “at a young age i used to sing while playing with my friends but as soon as I reached home I would stop because my cousins would make fun of me saying “you’re a girl you shouldn’t sing”. At the age of 13 Beckie started taking singing more serious, although she was a very shy child. Over the years she started to come out of her shell more by letting the music guide her. Johnz speaks alot on her insecurities as she grew up.

She experienced bullying from distant family members who put her down, furthermore affecting her self esteem. This experience is what eventually inspired Johnz to turn to music. Music became my therapy” states Johnz. It lifted me up and guided me through my painful and dark days, so this was my way of expressing myself”. Beckie studied music in high school without the knowledge of her mother, and over the years Beckie strengthened her vocal skills and paid her way through vocal coaching. Through her performances Beckie met with an artist and producer Marvelous under the label BMC that would work with her to present an awesome demo and help take her career to the next level. Through those musical relationships,Beckie was connected with the duo Mavelous B producer and recorded a mix tapes of “that could be us” by Maino and” nothin on you” by B.O.B ft Bruno Mars.

Beckie Johnz took a long break (5 years) from music due to personal issues that she was embarking on, however Beckie remembered how music made her feel and why she should continue to use her God given talent. She moved with her family to Melbourne, Australia in 2016 where the music is very versatile and undeniablely wide. She knew best to continue to do what lifted her soul up from the beginning ” I want to pave way for my young south Sudanese female up coming artists, who are afraid to rise up,simply because of the lack of support. I knew best to be a role model in the male dominant industry within our community. Beckie Johnz has released her first ever EP (Just the Beginning) and first music video now available on all music platforms. She is working on her first album date to be announced soon. Stay Tune!

By BigEyeUg Team

Former employee of 88.2 Sanyu FM, James Onen aka Fatboy is set to return on radio after almost two months of unemployment.

Fatboy was fired in June this year after reportedly masterminding a sit-down strike at the Kampala based ‘urban music station’.

This sent the radio management despairing for Fatboy’s quick replacement in the Sanyu FM Breakfast Club show and it’s perfect choice landed on comedian Patrick Salvado Idringi and RadioCity’s Miss Deedan.

The good news for Fatboy’s fans is that he has now new commitments with Reckless Radio.

His services will be in ‘The Fat Boy’ show airing from Monday to Friday, 6AM-10AM.

“The Fatboy Show” is a top quality 4-hour daily entertainment radio show hosted by James ‘Fatboy’ Onen, veteran radio presenter who for over two decades has been a dominant voice on morning prime time FM radio.

Joining him is Olive, a soft-spoken intellectual with a background in news, and the attitude of a soldier.

Reckless Radio is a Uganda-based digital radio station created by James ‘Fatboy’ Onen that aims to serve the needs of a growing class of media consumers who are looking for high quality radio content.

Congratulations FatBoy!
