Stupid idiots and immature people have this in common; they both dream nothing. No ambition or an endgame to their toiling. So long as the stomach is full, the phone is fully charged and bundles are aplenty, that’s it. Best feeling in the world. For Raymond Muiruri though, it was a whole different saga altogether. He postponed getting married when he hit 30, saying he wanted to achieve his dream fast. He wanted to be a landlord, badly. According to Raymond, Landlords are the one group of people he admired the most, saying all they do is collect, renovate and then collect some more. But, the more he chased his dream, the more he realized it was running away from him
He took a loan to finance his Cafe along Ngara, but that same week, a bigger hotel opened right across the street. The odds were continuously stacked against him. The harder he fought, the stronger the knock-out blow was.
“Life gives some pretty shitty reality checks. After sacrificing literally everything, including my own happiness, I still was struggling to do the one thing I had set out to do; win. I kept losing, kept weeping and sobbing. As the first born in my family, I wanted my younger siblings to look up to me and see a role model, not a failure. I thought I was smart, but life has taught me that luck matters more” Raymond couldn’t hide his shame, saying that he felt like giving up and go into hiding back home in Kirinyaga.
His Cafe was in its knees in no time as customers evaded it for the bigger one across. He reduced his prices, at the dire cost of making little to no profits, but the outcome was still the same; poverty was taking clear screenshots at his M-Pesa balance and giggling in silence. He closed it for a few days, to take a break from the emotional breakdown. He spent two days feeling sorry for himself and searching online motivational quotes to reduce the hurt. The third day is when he did something really important. Something that changed his fortunes. He stumbled upon an online page that described a traditional herbalist from Vihiga as “the one who unlocks potential and makes it possible for your destiny to manifest”.
He took his chances. Turns out, it was the one little-known secret to achieve his dreams, the one that would make him ultimately lucky enough to beat poverty. Dr. Mugwenu’s powerful Money and Success spells worked like magic. For the next three months straight, he watched in awe as customers kept flowing in his Cafe, all eager for Mukimo, Pilau, Chapatis and Chips. He expanded and opened another in Upper Hill and the results were fantabulous. Thanks to Dr. Mugwenu, he got lucky enough to open his heart, ready for marriage. His family depend on him and know that he is the most reliable brother and son. Dr. Mugwenu’s contact is keenly plastered in his Cafe, a gentle reminder as to how far he has taken him. Thanks to Dr. Mugwenu, he won.
