In a bid to celebrate midwives’ resilience and hard work, Acord Uganda celebrated the International Day of Midwives 2020 by recognizing the champions.
Amidst this pandemic and the lockdown, frontline workers have continued to “lock on”. The midwives have risked their lives to save mothers and the newborn babies.
Among the true heroes celebrated in this sector is Christopher Kwikiriza.
Christopher has served as a midwife with ACORD Uganda in the humanitarian context in Rwamwanja, Adjumani and Kyaka II since 2014. Humanitarian responses are quite challenging but Christopher has excelled in saving mothers, a role that he has played with courage, passion and precision. “My inspiration is to ensure that no mother or her baby is lost. In my career, I have not lost one and it remains my goal to give my best and provide safe deliveries. It is the reward that I get each day,” Christopher says.
As ACORD Uganda commemorated International Day of Midwives on the 5th of May 2020 with the theme: “Celebrate, Demonstrate, Mobilize and Unite”, they recognized and appreciated that midwives are committed to the delivery of quality and timely reproductive healthcare services; enabling women to lead productive healthy lives.
ACORD Uganda, celebrates their heroes; Catherine, Kellen, Faith, Susan and Christopher for their commitment and outstanding services. They also joined the entire world to appreciate midwives globally.
